Privacy Policy
App: Kilat
Developer: KakiKoding
Last updated: 22 September 2026
Kilat is developed by KakiKoding. This policy explains what data the app
handles.
The short version
Your thoughts and photos stay on your device. If you allow location, Kilat
sends a rough position (about 1 km) to a free weather service so it can note
the weather. Nothing else leaves your phone unless you share or export it
yourself.
Data storage
- The thoughts you write, the moods you pick and the photos you attach are
stored on your device only, in the app's private storage.
- No account or sign-up is required. There is no Kilat server, cloud or
sync service.
Location and weather
Location is optional. Kilat asks once, and every thought saves the same way
if you say no.
If you allow it, when you save a thought Kilat reads your current location
while the app is open (never in the background) and:
- Stores it with the thought on your device, so you can see where you were.
- Looks up a place name ("Bangsar", say) using your phone's built-in
geocoding service. On most Android phones this service is provided by
Google, and Google's privacy policy covers it.
- Looks up the current weather from Open-Meteo.
Before sending, Kilat rounds your position to about 1 km, so your exact
location never leaves the phone. The request carries no account, name or
device identifier. Open-Meteo's own privacy policy covers it.
You can turn location off at any time in your phone's settings, under Apps β
Kilat β Permissions.
Photos
- Take a photo opens your phone's camera app. Kilat doesn't ask for the
camera permission.
- Choose a photo uses Android's photo picker, which gives Kilat only the
one photo you pick. Kilat has no access to the rest of your gallery.
- Kilat makes a smaller copy of the photo in its own private storage.
Backups
- Export backup writes a single file, holding your thoughts, their
photos and the place and weather details, to a location you pick with
Android's own file picker.
- Send backup to⦠hands that file to an app you choose from the share
sheet.
- If you pick a cloud storage app such as Google Drive, that app stores the
file under your account, and its own privacy policy applies. Kilat never
sees your cloud account and never uploads anything itself.
- Android's own device backup may also include Kilat's data, if you have it
turned on. That backup is handled by Android and your Google account, not
by Kilat.
Data collection and tracking
- No analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking libraries are
included.
- No personal information, device identifiers or usage statistics are
collected by the developer.
Sharing
Data leaves the app only in the cases above: the rounded position sent for
weather, the place-name lookup, and anything you choose to share or export.
The Share button on a thought sends its text and photo only to the app you
pick.
Deleting your data
Delete a thought inside the app to remove it and its photo, or clear the
app's storage / uninstall the app to remove everything. Uninstalling does not
remove backup files you exported, so delete those from wherever you saved
them.
Children
Kilat is not directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect data from
anyone, children included.
